December 30th and 31st 2017 and January 1st 2018

The Vienna Philharmonic has invited Riccardo Muti to conduct the 2018 New Year’s Concert. The artistic collaboration between Maestro Riccardo Muti and the Vienna Philharmonic began in 1971. Since that time, Muti has conducted nearly 500 concerts with the orchestra.  Among these have been four New Year's Concerts (1993, 1997, 2000 and 2004), Philharmonic Subscription Concerts, memorial concerts and concert tours. In 2011, Muti was named an Honorary Member of the Vienna Philharmonic.

The Vienna Philharmonic is looking forward to a sparkling and energetic New Year’s Concert 2018!

It has long been a Philharmonic tradition at the New Year to present a program consisting of the lively and nostalgic music from the vast repertoire of the Johann Strauss family and its contemporaries. Today millions of people throughout the world draw joy and optimism for the New Year through the light-hearted yet subtly profound character of this music.
