Herrenchiemsee PalaceWe suggest a half day excursion to Herrenchiemsee Palace, the fairytale palace of King Ludwig II. We’ll reach the island by ferry over the crystal waters of the Chiemsee. This famous palace is the final and most magnificent edifice built by the extravagant and romantic monarch. Intended to surpass the Palace of Versailles built by the Sun King, France’s Louis XIV – as was the Habsburg’s Schӧnbrunn – the Palace at the Chiemsee was never completed but it remains a perfect example of splendor and royal excess.

Great Hall of MirrorsThe Royal Palace is a 15 minute walk from the pier on the Herreninsel. The Palace attracts thousands of visitors each year with its grandiose Great Hall of Mirrors, fascinating state rooms, the breathtaking marble staircase and intriguing “magic table”. Our guided tour will give us access for 20 magnificent rooms. At the end of the tour, weather permitting, we might be able to take a horse-drawn carriage back to the pier.

Schlosshotel MönchsteinOn our return to Salzburg, we’ll have time to freshen up before another memorable evening as we enjoy a festive gourmet dinner with sommelier at the Schlosshotel Mönchstein, Salzburg.

Hallein is dominated by the Celtic period. Even today the Celtic village on the Dürrnberg Mountain and the Celtic museum in Hallein evoke memories of long bygone days. The salt mines where the mine train, the wooden mine slides and the raft trip over the underground salt lake will inspire you.
