9.00 am We leave for a half day tour in Oberndorf

The beloved Christmas carol, Silent Night, Holy Night, was composed in this mountain village in 1818.

From the City of Salzburg it is only a short drive to the basilica of Maria Plain, the City’s traditional pilgrimage church. Mozart composed his Coronation Mass for the 28th anniversary of the coronation of the famous painting of the Madonna and Child that is enshrined before the basilica’s main altar. Since that time, the anniversary of this coronation has been celebrated annually. After this stop, your journey continues to Oberndorf to visit the little church where the beloved Christmas carol, Silent Night, Holy Night, was first performed. You will enjoy hearing it played in its original setting and hear the story of its creation.
